The Green Movement

In the past we’ve blogged about our Solar Install and today we’d like to do a quick update on the our solar panels.

As most of our clients know, our sister company ValueSolar.com provides excellent quality Mitsubishi panels at a reasonable price. They do nationwide installations and no job is too small (residential, commercial, anything solar). Right now, they are working on a 22,000 solar panel installation at some college. I’ll be sure to post some pictures on that once they’re done.

We’ve been putting off our updates mostly because we were waiting for our entire set to be installed. But unfortunately, we’re still waiting on permits for the freeway panel set from the City of Pomona.

Which brings up another point…wouldn’t city governments embrace cleaner electricity? Everybody says they are interested in cleaning up our environment but fail to act upon it. We are the first solar powered business in the City of Pomona but yet, our permits for our set of additional panels have been in for months now.

But this is not to fault the city, we understand there are many concerns involved such as safety. Yet, we only wished that more governments would give a little extra effort towards environmentally friendly endeavors. We’re not asking for any breaks, just a little expediency would be nice because the longer we wait, the more pollution we’re putting into the air. That said, we’ve worked with very nice people in the city office.

Everybody likes to see pictures so let’s have some pictures shall we? Here’s a closeup of what a panel looks like. It’s been raining for over a week now with thunderstorms and things so please excuse our clouds in the picture. We’ll try to go up and take some sunny day pictures one of these days.

We use lead free panels made by Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi leads the way in solar technology due to their high efficiency rating and lead free manufacturing process. What’s the point of using Solar if you’re dumping lead back into the environment…that’s the reason why we’re so high on these Mitsubishi panels.

We have panels spread out across our roof; mostly in cells where we can manage them. Also, we have to still leave room to maneuver around the roof. Stepping ever so slightly on a panel will break it.

Here’s some on our East wing:

West Wing Panels

And some on our West Wing (sounds like that TV Show). Sorry for the mess, our roof is littered with AC units, pipes, conduits and all kinds of things that go bump in the night.

And as we blogged before, we’re still waiting for our permits to put up panels on our south facing side. This rail is just waiting to be filled up with solar panels and runs the length of our building and then some. We can’t wait to put up a Freeway cam powered on Solar Energy…I think it would the first of its kind. We get excellent views of the 10 freeway (east and west), and the 57 / 210 / 10 freeway interchange.

Imountain Railing future home of more solar panels.

That’s it for now, in our next installment, we’ll have more details on our SolarCam (we hope). And if you work in the City of Pomona government office, please go hit up the building inspector and ask him to approve our freeway solar panel permits, pretty please with sugar on top :)

Website review: IdolBlogLive.com – AI Season 7

Idolbloglive.comOne of the greatest things about hosting websites is that you get to feel like you’re part of a global production line of literacy. There are so many websites out there, some good some bad and just some that are “wierd”. It’s just fun being a part of it, especially when we’re able to help it become the best it can be.

One of our newer clients has an American Idol Blog that we’ve had a hard time resisting. Idol Blog Live is run by Slimtainment.com and from all we’ve heard, seen and read, it’s the definitive blog for American Idol fans. Especially with Season 7 rolling around, they’re starting to heat up.

Some of the support guys here catch up on their American Idol news when they’re eating their lunch at midnight. And truth be told, it’s one of the better blogs we’ve seen out there.

The best thing about IdolBlogLive.com is that the blog gets updated daily and oftentimes, it’s updated several times a day. You all know those blogs that get updated only once a year right? Well this isn’t one of them. Sometimes the news gets updated on the site even before it appears on some of the major news outlets.

Website RollCall

Link us up togetherOk, so this might be a shameless plug for our clients but we figure we might as well take advantage of our Google Pagerank 5 “PR5″ and list some of our client sites.

If we miss your site, feel free to let us know and we’ll add it to the list…unfortunately we host too many domains to list them all but we’ll do a best effort list along with requests.

And of course, anytime you want to just put up our link on your site for a few weeks, we’d appreciate it.

Roll Call and in no particular order:

And I just realized our list is already pretty long and we’ve barely scratched the surface.

I don’t want to hijack the entire page with this so I’ll have to put off the rest for them for another installment. If you are our client and definitely want to be on this list and take advantage of this extra back-link to your site, just email us.

Secure Encrypted Mail/SSL available HOW TO

Iron Mountain Hosting is pleased to announce a further security enhancement available to all users of our email services.

We now use SSL/TLS encryption to secure all our outgoing and incoming mail whenever the responding server accepts it. In addition, users can take advantage of a more secure connection by setting up SSL/TLS encryption in their email settings.

Please follow this guide for setting up email in Outlook 2007.

For existing mail accounts:

1) Open up your Outlook and go to Account Settings and select the account you wish to enable SSL on

2) Click the CHANGE button which will open up a new Pop-Up box

3) Now click on Require secure authentication (SPA) if you like and then click More Settings

mailssl2.jpg

4) Now a new Internet E-Mail settings box will pop up with a few tabs across the top. As this is an existing mail account, all you will have to change is the Outgoing Server tab and the Advanced Tab. So first the Outgoing server tab, change it so it looks like this

mailssl3.jpg

Now, let’s change the Advanced Settings tab to look like this (NOTE: For IMAP, use port 993 instead of Pop3 995):

mailssl4.jpg

5) Once you have made those changes click OK. Then on the next screen, just click TEST ACCOUNT settings. Outlook will then ask you if you want to accept the SSL/Security certificate…say YES or Accept the certificate.

If all is well, the server will run a send and receive test and tell you that it passed the test. Just click next and FINISHED.
